New Balance 574s

New Balance 574

Super comfortable and made in the U.S.A., my New Balance 574's got a lot of wear this past summer. I looked all over the place for the basic gray but nobody had them in my size or color. Foot Locker and other sneaker stores carried multicolor 574s but hardly anybody had the basic gray in decent sizes. So I did a really smart thing and tried on a few pairs to determine my size and then went home to purchased them on the internet (NB ships them for free).

I got the idea for the orange laces from Andy Spade's 10 essentials on GQ.com, but for some reason or another its not online anymore. Best Life has some of his picks but its not as succinct as the GQ one. And let me tell you, it was no small feat trying to match the orange with Andy's shade. It's basically the Jack Spade Orange that I tried to duplicate on the title of each post. But after months and months of searching, I finally found it at We Love Colors. Maybe when Alex is older, I'll get him some orange laces for his NBs.

  1. Unrelated to this post but I stopped by Eddie Bauer over the weeken and I'm still dissapointed over the quality there.

  2. I know this is SUPPOSED to be about your NB's, but I'm focusing on the bluchers and duck mocs!

  3. The bluchers are great but the duck mocs are my favorite. I had them for about 8 years now and they get better every year. I was trying to hold out but maybe I'll post about them tomorrow.

  4. How do you get the leather tongue on the bean boots to fold down? I've had mine for a few years now and it won't budge; it's being stubborn.

I have a couple ideas. I'll blog about it tomorrow.

  6. We ran in New Balance for years, but then they started making them in China and ceased being our must-have shoe. (This would be decades ago, trust us.) We would be ever-so-happy if we could find a pair made stateside that we liked. This has us thinking perhaps there is hope again for a pair of NB on the horizon.

    Have a terrific Tuesday,

  7. Maybe only the 574s are still made in the USA. My tag does say made in the USA but I checked another pair on Friday (I can't remember the number) at Dicks Sporting Goods and it was made in China. Sad!

  8. My 882's say USA as well. I'm pretty sure they're made in Boston actually.

  9. I hope so. I know that their headquarters is still in Boston.

  10. I've seen the headquarters right by WGBH. The 86 bus runs right by there. Great idea about the orange laces...I wonder how they'd look with Sperrys....

Your right! I love driving past the WGBH building at night.

I think it would great on Sperrys. I have two pairs of orange laces, so I put the extra one on my Bean canvas shoes.

Let me know if you try them out.
