LL Bean Flagship

I finally made it out to LL Bean's Flagship Store in Freeport, Maine and it was like being in heaven. The only things missing were golden harps and the Signature line.

LL Bean Signature Fall 2010 Trunk Show

Last night, I attended LL Bean Signature's Trunk Show for Fall 2010 in Portland, Maine and I was highly impressed with the assorted mixture of colors and materials that will be rolling out in the next month. As the crowd gathered in Bang Cut & Color on Congress Street to get an exclusive look at the new selections, I basked in the glow of meeting a handful of great people behind the brand such as, Laurie Brooks and Michele Parzianello to name a few. Fall is what LL Bean does best and Alex Carleton definitely delivered with this season's collection.

Capsule: Ally Capellino

As a person who blogs about style and fatherhood, Ally Capellino was the only brand that seemed to cater to both my passions.

Save Khaki

When I first put the word out that I would be in New York this week, James Jean immediately responded,  "Contact Dave Mongan at Save Khaki and he will take care of you." And that's exactly what he did and much much more. We met up at the Save Khaki store at 327 Lafayette St and after a quick introduction, I was quickly overwhelmed by the array of products in the shop.

Date Night with N'East Style: The Great Gatsby

We have a very special Date Night for you this week.  Eli Getson from The Selvedge Yard suggested The Great Gatsby a little while ago but we wanted to give this movie the proper attention that it deserved. So we enlisted the help of fellow blogger Gabe Alonso from The History of My World, to select a few songs to accompany our style choices. Enjoy!

Jay Gatsby: Part 1
Daisy Buchanan: Part 2

Axes: Tool or Art?

Peter Buchanan-Smith of Best Made Co.

By now, everyone should be familiar with the crescendo for authenticity within the style blogsphere and the fever pitch moment that occurred when Gilt pushed axes as great father's day gifts, but you may not know the story behind the ax or the man who became uneasy when his product went viral.  Well, thanks to The New Times, the story is now revealed. Meet designer Peter Buchanan-Smith and learn that along with his talent for making axes, he advised Isaac Mizrahi and Philip Glass on graphic design, redesigned Paper magazine and won a Grammy for an album cover he made for his favorite band, Wilco.

BeSpeak: Alan Flusser in the Palm of your Hands

This past Wednesday, I had the great fortune of attending a release party for Off The Cuff's iphone application BeSpeak, which is the equivalent of having Alan Flusser's expert opinion on style in your back pocket. If you don't know who Alan Flusser is, rent Wall Street, Scent of a Women, and American Psycho and take a look at Michael Douglas, Al Pacino, and Christian Bale's wardrobes. Yes, Flusser outfitted these iconic characters and now he can do the same for you through this free application.

Get to know your local cobbler

1990's Red Wing 875

Earlier this week, I decided to drive down to Dover, DE to visit the Red Wing Store and to my surprise, I spotted these boots on a shelf with other vintage Red Wings. The cobbler told me that he bought an array of Red Wings shoes from the previous owner but couldn't sell most of them because of the small sizes. The boots did seem a little small but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try them on. They were a size 8E and I'm typically a 9 or 9 1/2 but for some reason or another the shoes fit perfectly.

Marketing Campaigns: Imogene + Willie

I will be the first to admit that, until recently, I wasn't a big denim guy. Khakis were always my preference in college and grad school, so I knew little about washes and cuts for denim beyond my 501s. But with the start of this blog and my obsession with Americana wear, denim is slowly carving a special place in my wardrobe as well as in my heart.  And thanks to my buddy Joe Gannon and his Denim Debate entries, one brand that especially caught my eye some time ago is Nashville's imogene + willie, a small company making big waves in the denim department.

Red Wing Wabasha Boat Shoes

Red Wing Boat Shoes

A few months ago, I did a post on my favorite boat shoes (alternatives to Sperry Topsiders) that are currently available on the market and now I want to add one more to the list: Red Wing Wabashas. Hand sewn in Wabasha, Minnesota with durable rich leather, these boat shoes could easily add that extra American touch to your ever growing Americana style. Available here.

Kenna
Kenna's second album produced by Chad Hugo of The Neptunes was a brilliant masterpiece that fell way under the radar. Check it out and tell me what you think.

Chambray For Sale

If you're still waiting to add some Chambray to your wardrobe, then wait no longer because Gap's Chambray Roll-up Popover is currently on sale for $29.99. All sizes are still available.

Timberland's Rugged Hand Sewn Shoes

Currently on sale at Urban Outfitters are Timberland's Rugged Hand Sewn Shoes and I think they look great. I had a pair of Timberland's boat shoes all through college and they held up pretty well.  I actually wore those shoes almost exclusively as a undergrad and only recently had to retire them from my spring lineup for various reasons. So with that in mind, the description is as follows:
A hand-sewn rugged leather shoe from Timberland's Abington collection - a tribute to the company's start as the Abington Shoe Company in the 1950s. Boat-shoe-inspired lacing at the front and around the collar with tonal canvas detail; cushioned collar; contoured foot bed; no-slip Vibram sole for superior traction.
Reaching back into your archives for inspiration: a good thing. Finding a shoe that comfortably takes you into the future: a great thing.

The Windmill Club just introduced some bow ties for the summer and both are quite nice.

4th of July on Martha's Vineyard

Whenever I think of the 4th of July, my mind quickly races back to our summer vacation on Martha's Vineyard a few years ago. We went a little earlier than usual that year and found ourselves celebrating America's independence near the gazebo in Oaks Bluff.
