Andy Spade's How I Get My Style: Shoes

J.Crew Suede MacAlister Boots

Back in the September issue of GQ in 04, Andy Spade was featured in the Tastemakers section of the magazine with a list of thoughts and stories that shaped his style. By then, I already knew who Andy was so I was very excited to see this list. Under the shoe section, Andy wrote,
"In college, I wore cordovan Alden loafers. Kate got me my first pair. I've worn brogues a lot, desert boots, the Tretorn tennis shoe."
The article was accompanied with three pictures on the left hand side. The picture on the top was a pair of Classic Desert Boots with the caption "Not by Jack Spade." With this picture in mind, I went out to find a pair at the local mall in Cambridge MA. It took some time but eventually I stumbled upon a pair of Desert Boots at J.Crew. Till today, these are still the most comfortable shoes that I own. Thanks Andy.

  1. You didn't want to go with the Clark's originals?

  2. I didn't realize he was wearing Clarks until years later.

  3. I'm sure you're aware of it now, but J. Crew crimially overcharges for their McAllister boot. When Clarks is selling the original for $95 against a $135 immitation, the decision is already made for you.

I love how J. Crew makes great looking, accessible clothes for the likes of the average man, such as myself, but when I see them blatanlty taking advantage of their consumer, who is often ill-informed, my stomach turns. That's one of the reasons I started my blog...to keep people informed. Anyhow, thats my corporate "catch-22" bitching, haha.

  4. So true! I can't remember how much I paid for the J.Crew version but I'm pretty sure it was over $100. I wish they had blogs like yours 5 years ago.

Keep fighting the good fight, L.A.S.!
You just earned a reader for life!

  5. It seems I read that Kate & Andy met while both working at a preppy store in Arizona while attending college?? The story of how they got started is really interesting.

P.S. I like your blog header picture and am curious as to what it is..?
