Alex Picks: Super Bowl Commercial

My favorite Super Bowl Commercial from last night which features a great looking car and shows Fatherhood at its best. Volkswagen has done it again.

Alex's Picks: Foam Lacrosse Sticks

We tried some others in the past but the lacrosse set from Pottery Barn Kids is the best of what's around.

Alex's Pick: Barbour Jacket

If April showers bring May flowers, then why not keep your little one dry with a Barbour Jacket. J.Crew is currently offering a smaller version of the classic Beaufort Jacket online. The price is a little steep (as with all Barbour jackets), so I would suggest that you be patient and check out Ebay until one pops up or visit an Orvis outlet like Joe Gannon.  I scored one for myself for $75 on Ebay UK.

Alex's Pick: Sophie Teething Toy

We purchased this teething toy on one of our trips to Annapolis MD last year for Alex and it's still going strong with Avery.

According to the website,
The Little giraffe was born on the 25th of May in the year 1961…St Sophie’s day! In those days, the only animal toys available were farm animal or pet figures.. That is why one day in France, a certain Monsieur RAMPEAU, who was an expert in transforming sap from the HEVEA tree using the rotational molding of rubber as a toy-making concept, came up with the idea of designing a giraffe.

Such an exotic wildlife figure would be a first on the market, and its size and shape would be ideal for a baby’s small hands to grasp. Sophie the Giraffe, who looked exactly the same then as she does today, went into production on a Thursday, May 25th, whence her name. She was an immediate success.

Once they show signs of teething, do you and your child a favor and pick one up.  You'll thank me later.

Alex's Pick: Yellow Slicker

Given the amount of rain that we received over the past few days, I decided to make this Alex's pick a classic yellow slicker to keep your little one nice and dry. This one is currently on sale at Janie and Jack.

Alex's Pick: Buzz Lightyear

To infinity and beyond!

I must admit that I haven't seen Toy Story until a few months ago but since the first day I put it on, Alex has been all about Buzz Lightyear. So I got him this soft Buzz from the Disney Store and he has not let it out of his site yet. When I tried giving Alex a Max doll from Where The Wild Things Are, he couldn't care less (despite the fact that he wants me to read him the story every night) but things are different with Buzz. I guess you never know what's going to peak their interest.

Alex's Pick: Linus Blanket

Evey child needs a security blanket.

Alex is usually a good sleeper but a month ago, he started cutting his naps a little short. I quickly remembered that I wanted to buy him a Linus Blanket from Urban Outfitters before he was born, and when it arrived, Alex was instantly attached to it. He's been sleeping like a baby ever since.

BTW, A Charlie Brown Chirstmas is now streaming on Hulu.

Alex's Picks: French Cartoons

Tintin

I can't put my finger on it but for some reason or another; I always loved French cartoons as a kid. Tintin, Madeline, and Babar were a few of my favorite cartoons growing up and I'm slowly introducing them to my children. Alex already loves Madeline and he has a Babar book and toy that we picked up at Riley's Reads the summer before he was born. And although he's not quite ready for Tintin cartoons, maybe I'll get him this for Christmas.

Alex's Pick: Land's End Fox Boots

Land's End Snow Flurry Boots

For those of us who are fortunate enough to have children, I decided to start an Alex's Pick section on this blog which will feature great products for children. And since the temperature is beginning to drop, I think it would be appropriate to dedicate the first couple of picks to winter gear.

I received the Land's End Kids catalog the other day and one of the few items that stood out to me was the Snow Flurry Character Boots. Deer, Bunny, and Fox are the choices but I love the whimsical nature and color of the fox boots (now $22).
