The Den of Inequity

Hollister Hovey

A den/study is a must for our next home. Inspired by Hollister Hovey's Frontier Motif for the holidays, I was wondering how I would decorate our den for the holidays to come. Below is TOPH and Vitals (Sp 2005) guide to decorating your study. Is there anything you would add? What do you have in your study?

  1. Ash tray? Seems like something that belongs in a den, even if you don't smoke. Also, a lamp with a green glass lampshade.

Great call with the ash tray. If money wasn't an option, I would go for number 8 in the Vitals picture. I also like the vintage lighter sitting next to it.

  3. Books. Piles of papers. What else would you need, in a study?

  4. I'm a big believer in the den as a "man cave" the one place in the house that dosen't have all of the frilly things my wife likes. Give me a leather chair, some books, a TV to watch what I want, some booze, and maybe if your lucky enough a humidor. Me I'm sure I'll just have to settle for a closet, but I can dream.

  5. Interesting post. I was sad to see Vitals go. It was a good magazine.

  6. OMG I LOVE those study pics from Vitals. What is Vitals by the way? Must go to Half Price books in the old mag section and see if they still have that article.

In my study (I also have a den as well) I have lots of ducks, books, a great antique desk, some Ralph Lauren-ish etage shelves, old-man-by-the-sea cast iron figurines (should post those on my blog) and some great great horse pics. A study is a great place to "prep it up."

Vitals was a great magazine that was discontinued in 2005. I scanned a few pages that can be seen on my impulse shelf under official preppy handbook.
